Hustlers is the feminist film we deserve. Lorene Scafaria doesn't need to hit viewers over the head with a message about female empowerment; it emerges effortlessly in her script. The film is rife with well-written female characters. Even when the characters' actions are despicable, they still maintain a touch of humanity that makes them worth caring about. A solid ensemble cast also helps make the characters so compelling. Jennifer Lopez undoubtedly delivers her best performance in years. Scafaria's film is a shining example of how to make a movie that's feminist, diverse, inclusive, and full of social commentary without making those things feel forced. Hustlers is smart, seductive, and endlessly entertaining.
